Apple September event 2026 turned out to be one of the company’s biggest product launches in years. The headline was the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, but the event also brought the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and AirPods 5.

More importantly, Apple isn’t treating these as isolated hardware updates. Across the lineup, the company is pushing a combination of new silicon, on-device intelligence, improved cameras, higher-frequency health sensing, and software designed around the new hardware.

For Indian buyers, though, there’s another story running through the launch: prices have moved sharply higher. The iPhone Duo starts at ₹2,99,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro starts at ₹1,64,900. Apple has also increased prices for several older iPhone models that remain in the lineup.

Here’s a complete India-first breakdown of everything Apple announced, including the important features and specifications that don’t always make it into the headline launch summaries.

Quick Summary: What Launched and What It Costs in India

The biggest timing difference is the iPhone Duo. While the rest of the new hardware reaches stores on September 18, Apple’s foldable doesn’t go on sale until October 23, with pre-orders opening October 16 at 5:30 p.m. IST. The iPhone 18 Pro models begin pre-orders on September 12, also at 5:30 p.m. IST.

iPhone Duo: Apple’s First Foldable iPhone

The headline act of the event is also the biggest change Apple has made to the iPhone design in years. iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, opening into a 7.6-inch display while retaining a 5.4-inch outer screen for normal phone use when closed.

Apple says the Duo is the thinnest iPhone ever when opened, measuring just 5.2mm thick. Folded, it is 11.3mm thick and weighs 254 grams. The two displays use the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale more naturally between the outer and inner screens. Apple also describes the outer display as roughly 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, while the inner screen is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Both screens support ProMotion with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, Always-On display, HDR, True Tone, P3 wide colour and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness. Apple is also bringing Apple Pencil support to the Duo later this year. The USB-C Apple Pencil will work with either display, giving users a larger surface for notes, sketches and marking up documents.

Apple has put a lot of work into durability

Foldables are often judged on how well they survive repeated opening and closing, and Apple is clearly trying to address that concern before the product reaches customers.

iPhone Duo uses a Grade 5 titanium frame and a 3D-printed titanium hinge cover. Apple says the precision hinge contains more than 100 components and is designed to hold the centre of the display flat when the phone is open. The back is protected by Ceramic Shield, while Ceramic Shield 2 covers the outer display and offers three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation.

The phone is also rated IP68 for splash, water and dust resistance. Inside the folding screen, Apple uses high-strength glass, a custom polymer cover layer, special adhesives to relieve bending stress and a titanium plate underneath the display to add further structural support.

The camera system is more capable than “dual camera” suggests

The camera also gets some foldable-specific tricks. Smart Take uses on-device AI to analyse a scene and automatically capture a photo when subjects are posing, while Duo Preview puts a live camera preview on the outer display so people in front of the phone can see the framing.

Kid Cue uses Peanuts animations on the outer display to attract a child’s attention toward the camera. The outer camera is a 12MP Center Stage camera that can automatically expand the field of view and rotate the frame, so users don’t have to physically rotate the phone for landscape selfies or video calls. iOS 27 is built around the foldable screen

The biggest software change is that iOS 27 now adapts specifically to Duo’s two-screen design.

The unusual part of the battery design is that Duo uses one high-energy battery on each side of the phone. Apple says the two work together as a single system, delivering up to 44 hours of video playback using the outer display and up to 31 hours using the inner display. When both displays are used equally, Apple rates the phone for up to 24 hours of usage.

It supports up to 50 percent charging in around 20 minutes with a 60W-capable adapter or higher, while MagSafe or Qi2 can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes with the specified setup.

One practical detail Indian buyers should know is that iPhone Duo is eSIM-only worldwide. It supports two active eSIMs and can store eight or more eSIMs, with no physical SIM card slot.

iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max

Unlike the Duo, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are the conventional flagship upgrades, but Apple has still made some substantial changes this year.

Both models retain the familiar Pro formula while moving to A20 Pro, a new thermal system, three 48MP rear cameras, variable aperture on the Main camera, a redesigned Dynamic Island, an 18MP Center Stage front camera and significantly improved video capabilities.

A20 Pro moves to 2nm

A20 Pro is Apple’s first 2nm iPhone chip. It has a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, hardware-accelerated ray tracing and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine.

Apple says the new chip has 50 percent more memory bandwidth than A19 Pro, while the GPU is up to 40 percent faster. The Neural Engine has 32 total cores and provides twice the AI processing power of the previous generation.

Apple is pairing it with a redesigned vapor chamber with three times the surface area of the previous iPhone 17 Pro generation. The company says the combination allows up to a 40 percent improvement in sustained performance during demanding workloads.

The camera system is the biggest upgrade

The iPhone 18 Pro series gets a 48MP Pro Fusion camera system across all three rear cameras.

The 48MP Fusion Main camera is the headline change because it introduces variable aperture to the iPhone for the first time. It can switch between ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8 and ƒ/4.0. At ƒ/1.48, the camera can gather more light in darker conditions. At ƒ/4, it can provide greater depth of field so more of a group stays in focus. Users can also manually select the aperture.

The 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera has a 13mm focal length and 120-degree field of view, while the 48MP Fusion Telephoto uses a 100mm equivalent 4x lens and a tetraprism design. It also provides an 8x optical-quality telephoto mode at 200mm.

Together, the system offers an 8x optical-quality zoom-in, 2x optical zoom-out and a 16x optical-quality zoom range, with digital zoom reaching 40x.

Apple has also added Pro controls that let users manually adjust aperture, shutter speed and white balance, while a histogram provides a way to check exposure.

Another unusual addition is Apple Reference Image. The iPhone can create an unalterable reference version of a photograph based on signed sensor data, allowing users to compare the reference with the edited image. Apple is positioning this as a way to help verify whether an image has been altered.

Video is clearly aimed at creators

The iPhone 18 Pro can record 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 120fps. It also supports ProRes recording at up to 4K 120fps with external recording, ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, Academy Color Encoding System and Genlock.

There are also new Audio Mix algorithms, improved low-light video, spatial video recording, Dual Capture and four studio-quality microphones.

The front camera has also been upgraded to an 18MP Center Stage camera with autofocus. It can automatically adjust framing and rotate the frame for different shooting orientations, while Dual Capture lets users record themselves and what they are seeing at the same time.

Smaller Dynamic Island, more information

Apple has redesigned the Dynamic Island so it can display up to three Live Activities simultaneously while continuing to support Face ID for authentication and purchases.

The two displays remain 6.3 inches on the iPhone 18 Pro and 6.9 inches on the Pro Max, with ProMotion up to 120Hz, Always-On functionality and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness. Both now use an aluminium unibody with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back.

Connectivity gets Apple’s own silicon

The Pro models use Apple’s C2 cellular modem and N1 wireless networking chip. The C2 modem brings improvements to cellular quality and reliability, while N1 enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread.

The Indian specifications also list precision dual-frequency GPS with NavIC support, alongside the usual GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and BeiDou systems.

Battery life is much better, but India-specific figures matter

Apple’s India technical specifications rate the iPhone 18 Pro for up to 34 hours of video playback and the Pro Max for up to 43 hours. Typical-use figures are 23 hours and 29 hours respectively.

Both can reach 50 percent charge in around 15 minutes with a 60W-capable adapter or higher, while MagSafe charging can reach 50 percent in around 30 minutes with the specified 35W or higher setup.

Apple separately quotes higher 36-hour and 45-hour video-playback figures for eSIM-only versions, but for an India-first article the India technical specifications are the more relevant figures.

iPhone 18 Pro And iPhone 18 Pro Max India pricing

The starting price is ₹30,000 higher than the launch price of last year’s iPhone 17 Pro and ₹30,000 higher for the Pro Max as well. That makes this more than a routine year-to-year price adjustment: Apple is asking substantially more, while also adding a genuinely larger camera, performance and battery upgrade.

Apple Watch Series 12

Apple Watch Series 12 is less about changing the outward design and more about making the watch a more capable health and fitness sensor.

It introduces Apple’s new Health Sensing System, which combines redesigned optical and electrical heart sensors with the S11 chip. Apple says a study involving more than 1,000 participants found the new Apple Watch had the highest heart-rate sensing accuracy among the wearables tested.

Higher-frequency health sensing

The optical heart sensor now uses larger, power-efficient green LEDs and measures heart rate every five seconds, all day long.

HRV is measured up to 24 times more frequently than before. Apple also separates HRV into Recovery HRV, intended to provide more insight into daily stress and recovery, and overall HRV for broader health information.

Overnight vitals now include Recovery HRV against a user’s personal baseline, while a new daytime vitals view lets users look at daytime and overnight measurements separately.

A new Readiness score

Readiness is one of the more interesting new features because it tries to turn all of that health data into something more understandable.

The watch looks at recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep score, then produces a single 0–10 score with one of four recommendations: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready, or Go For It.

The score can change during the day as new information arrives, such as an intense workout or a change in daytime vitals.

Step tracking has been rebuilt

Apple has also redesigned the pedometer using new machine-learning algorithms. The system is intended to improve indoor walking and running distance measurements as well as all-day step counts.

Apple calls it the most accurate step tracking of any smartwatch and has added a dedicated Steps complication for viewing the count directly from the watch face.

Audio Intelligence comes to the wrist

The S11 chip also enables a new class of Audio Intelligence features.

Sound Recognition can listen for important sounds such as sirens, alarms, doorbells or a baby crying and notify users, even when the iPhone isn’t nearby.

Live Rewind can show a text snippet of the previous 15 seconds of a conversation, while Siri Recap creates a high-level summary of a conversation that can be reviewed later. Shazam can also identify music playing nearby.

Apple says these features are designed with privacy in mind. The watch does not create or store audio recordings; raw audio is processed in a hardware-isolated Secure Exclave and then deleted. Siri Recap produces a summary rather than a full transcript.

watchOS 27 adds more than Siri AI

Series 12 supports Siri AI through watchOS 27, bringing personal context understanding and broader world knowledge to the wrist.

The update also introduces a dynamic app grid with five Siri-suggested apps, a new one-handed tap gesture, improved Smart Stack suggestions, additional Cycle Tracking support for perimenopause and menopause, and Workout Buddy that can work without the iPhone nearby.

Design, battery and durability

Apple Watch Series 12 comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes with aluminium, titanium and ceramic cases. Aluminium models get Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says is 60 percent tougher than the previous Ion-X glass.

Battery life reaches up to 24 hours of normal use and 38 hours in Low Power Mode. Outdoor workouts can run for up to 10 hours.

Charging has also improved: Apple says 15 minutes of charging can add up to 12 hours of normal-use battery life, while five minutes can provide up to 10 hours of sleep tracking. The watch also has 50-metre water resistance and IP6X dust resistance.

Apple Watch Series 12 starts at ₹56,900 in India and is available from September 18.

One important India limitation

Hypertension Notifications will not initially be available in India on Apple Watch Series 12 because additional regulatory clearances are still in process. Apple expects the feature to become available next year.

Apple Watch Ultra 4

Apple Watch Ultra 4 takes the same new Health Sensing System and S11 chip but puts them inside the company’s more rugged sports and adventure watch.

The emphasis here is endurance. Apple says Ultra 4 delivers up to 50 hours of normal battery life, up to 84 hours in Low Power Mode and up to 45 hours in Max Extended Workout mode. It also gets Apple’s most accurate on-device GPS system in a sports watch.

Built for long workouts

Ultra 4’s normal outdoor workout mode can run for up to 18 hours, while Extended Workout mode provides up to 25 hours with full GPS and heart-rate readings.

Max Extended Workout can extend tracking to 45 hours for outdoor runs, walks and hikes while continuing to take GPS readings every second. Apple says the mode is typically enough to cover a 100-mile race.

Charging is faster too. The watch can reach 80 percent in about 45 minutes, while a 15-minute charge can provide up to 18 hours of normal use. Five minutes is enough for up to 10 hours of sleep tracking.

Rugged hardware and serious outdoor capabilities

Ultra 4 uses a 49mm Grade 5 titanium case with natural and black finishes. Its 422 × 514-pixel Always-On LTPO3 OLED display reaches 3,000 nits and drops as low as 1 nit, with a flat sapphire crystal covering the screen.

The watch is water resistant to 100 metres and supports swimming, snorkelling, scuba and high-speed water sports. Its depth gauge works to 40 metres and there is a dedicated water-temperature sensor.

It also has a customisable Action button, precision dual-frequency GPS, a siren, offline maps, Backtrack and the sensors needed for more advanced outdoor workouts.

The health and AI upgrades carry over

Ultra 4 measures heart rate every five seconds and measures HRV up to 24 times more often. It gets the same Recovery HRV, daytime and overnight vitals, Readiness score and redesigned step tracking as Series 12.

The S11 chip also brings Sound Recognition, Live Rewind, Siri Recap and Shazam, while Siri AI adds personal context and broader world knowledge through watchOS 27.

Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at ₹1,09,900 in India and becomes available September 18.

As with Series 12, Hypertension Notifications will not initially be available in India because additional regulatory clearances are still being processed.

AirPods 5

The smallest product launch of the event may actually be one of the more interesting ones for mainstream buyers.

AirPods 5 bring Active Noise Cancellation to Apple’s open-ear AirPods design, rather than using the silicone-tipped in-ear approach of the Pro line. Apple says the new ANC removes up to 50 percent more external noise than AirPods 4 with ANC.

ANC, Adaptive Audio and better sound

The AirPods 5 use Apple’s H2 headphone chip and a new multiport acoustic architecture with next-generation Adaptive EQ.

They support Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode, Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness. Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking is also included.

Conversation Awareness automatically lowers media volume when the wearer begins talking, while Adaptive Audio adjusts the listening experience between noise cancellation and transparency depending on the environment.

Siri AI and Live Translation

AirPods 5 also bring hands-free Siri AI capabilities. With a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, users can ask questions, brainstorm and have conversations without reaching for the phone.

Siri Interactions allow users to nod or gently shake their head to respond to Siri when handling calls, messages and notifications. Live Translation can also translate supported conversations across languages, although availability depends on the language and region.

The two models are not identical

The standard AirPods 5 have up to four hours of battery life with ANC enabled and up to 20 hours with the charging case.

The ₹17,900 AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case increase that to up to five hours on a charge and 22 hours with the case. That version also adds swipe-on-stem volume control, and its case supports USB-C, Apple Watch charging and Qi-compatible charging. The wireless case also includes a speaker for Find My.

Both versions are IP57-rated for improved resistance to dust, sweat and water.

The Price Hike Story: India Gets Hit Hard

The new products aren’t the only thing that changed on September 9. Apple also raised prices on several existing iPhone models in India, making the launch more expensive even for buyers who aren’t interested in the new hardware.

The revised prices include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air and iPhone 16. Reuters reported that India’s increases were among the steepest Apple implemented in 2026, with some configurations rising by more than 40 percent.

Revised India prices for carried-over models

The iPhone 17’s 256GB launch price was ₹82,900 in India, while the 512GB version was ₹1,02,900, so the new ₹99,900 and ₹1,24,900 prices represent increases of roughly 20 percent. Apple now lists the 17e at ₹79,900, and Reuters puts the top-end iPhone Air increase at about 41 percent.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max aren’t price-revised versions of the previous models, of course. They’re new phones replacing the 17 Pro generation, but their starting prices are also ₹30,000 higher than their predecessors’ Indian launch prices.

The result is a significantly more expensive iPhone lineup at almost every level. The iPhone 17 price increase is now positioned at ₹99,900, the iPhone Air sits considerably higher, and the new Pro models start at ₹1,64,900. Apple’s lineup therefore leaves much less room between the premium mainstream models and the Pro range than it did a year ago.

The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have also disappeared from Apple’s current India lineup, leaving the iPhone 18 Pro models as the current Pro tier. Apple has not announced a standard iPhone 18 model at this September event.

What This Apple September Event Actually Means

Three things stand out from Apple’s September 9 launch.

First, the iPhone Duo is the genuine new category. Apple has finally entered the foldable-phone market, but it has done so with a device that starts at ₹2,99,900 in India.
