Introduction
Imagine turning your TV into a full-fledged computer without buying an expensive laptop or desktop. Reliance Jio has now made this dream come true with its newly launched Jio PC app, which was earlier available only for beta users but is now officially available for all users. I have been using it through my Jio Air Fiber connection and tested it thoroughly at home to share this detailed, honest, and user-based review. In this article, I will explain its features, installation process, performance, and whether it is worth subscribing to for your daily computer needs.
What is Jio PC App?
Jio PC app is a unique service launched by Reliance Jio that transforms your Jio set-top box into a personal computer. It was activated on my set-top box from 14th July 2025. As soon as I saw the icon, curiosity pulled me in, and I decided to explore its features, installation process, performance, and usability.
Installation and Login Process
When I clicked on the Jio PC app icon on my TV, it immediately prompted me to connect a wireless keyboard and mouse. I used my wireless set first, and it verified both quickly. To check compatibility, I also tested a wired keyboard and mouse, and they worked seamlessly, proving that both types are supported.
After connecting the devices, the app asked me to create a login using my phone number registered with my Jio Air Fiber connection. An OTP was sent to my number, and once I entered it, a subscription screen appeared.

Subscription Plans
The subscription page displayed :
₹599 monthly plan with one month free trial
Interestingly, when I clicked ‘Yes’ to start my trial, it did not ask for any credit card or bank account details to proceed. This was a relief for users who worry about unwanted auto deductions during free trials.
Specifications Displayed
After activating the trial, the app showed the system specifications:
Plan Name: Trial_Jio_Pc_30DaysOT
Storage: 100 GB
RAM: 8 GB
Processor: 2.45 GHz 4vCPU
On clicking “Launch Now,” the Jio PC environment opened up, looking just like a Windows desktop screen – although it does not run on Windows.

Operating System and Software
When I explored the start menu and settings, the system information showed:
Operating System: Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy Jellyfish
Cinnamon Edition: 5.2.7
Processor: Intel Xeon Platinum 8370C CPU @ 2.80 GHz x2
Memory: 7.8 GB
Hard Drive: 68.7 GB
This means Jio PC is essentially running Ubuntu Linux with Cinnamon desktop environment, giving a Windows-like feel with stability, open-source benefits, and reduced licensing costs.

User Interface Experience
The interface is clean and minimal. It even allows opening a ‘My Computer’ type window using Windows key + E shortcut, similar to Windows PCs, which enhances user familiarity.
Performance Review
Browsing Experience
I tested Google Chrome first. Initially, there was a slight delay while launching, but after opening it 2-3 times, it worked fine, though not as smoothly as a high-end Windows PC. YouTube opened directly within Chrome but again with a slight lag.
Local Operations
The “My Computer” page and settings page worked perfectly with no delays. File navigation, app settings, and system information pages were responsive and easy to use.
App Store & Office Apps
Jio PC has its own app store with several pre-installed software, including basic office apps. While it does not include Microsoft Office, you can use Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides efficiently for academic or light professional work.
Who Should Use Jio PC?
From my personal testing, I feel Jio PC app is a great initiative by Jio to make personal computers accessible to every home in India, especially for students and light users.
Students: Ideal for school or college projects, browsing, video lectures, and online classes.
Home Users: For basic browsing, paying bills, online shopping, watching YouTube, or maintaining documents.
Senior Citizens: Easy for bill payments, video calls with family, and reading news on a bigger screen.
However, it may not be suitable for heavy tasks like video editing, gaming, complex coding, or professional design software, as it has limitations in performance and compatibility.

My Thoughts on Cost and Market Impact
The starting plan is around ₹599 + 18% GST monthly, which sums up to nearly ₹707 per month. For a normal user, it can be a bit expensive, especially since it does not provide a physical PC but rather a virtual environment via cloud computing.
But one big advantage is:
No maintenance or repairs required unlike traditional PCs or laptops.
No wiring clutter, making your setup neat and easy to manage.
Access anywhere in the home through your set-top box and TV.
I also think such services might affect PC and laptop sales, as families with minimal needs may shift to Jio PC instead of investing ₹30,000-₹40,000 in a basic laptop.
Final Verdict: Is Jio PC Worth Trying?
Jio PC app is still in its beta testing phase, and many features will be polished before public release. For now, my honest verdict is:
Pros
Easy installation and setup
No credit card needed for free trial
Decent performance for basic tasks
Windows-like feel with Linux stability
Affordable compared to buying a new PC
Cons
Slight lag in browsing apps like Chrome and YouTube
Not suitable for heavy professional or creative tasks
Monthly cost may add up over long-term usage
In conclusion, Jio PC app is a revolutionary step towards making technology accessible to every home in India. It bridges the digital divide for students, elders, and families who cannot afford a dedicated PC. However, its performance limitations and monthly charges are factors to consider before relying on it as your primary computer.
I will soon test WordPress and other web development tools on it and update my detailed review for professionals and bloggers. Till then, if you get access to Jio PC, try it out and see how this innovation can transform your TV into a functional personal computer.
